Socio-Technical Researcher | Veteran Automation Engineer
Studying Micro-Linguistic Traps & Decision-Making in Skilled and Knowledge Work
I bring over three decades of hands-on field experience in Engineering, Sales, Marketing and Project Management in Process Control Automation Industry. Having spent a full career in high-stakes technical environments—navigating strict project deadlines, safety protocols, and complex cross-functional teams—I possess a deep, practical understanding of the systemic friction generated between intra-domain and inter-domain logic and imperatives.Following my retirement from active engineering practice, I transitioned into qualitative organizational research to investigate the sociolinguistic dynamics of workplace decision-making. My scholarship examines the deployment of 'Cant'—unassailable, performative corporate slogans and virtue traps used in public accounts to halt technical debate, enforce synthetic compliance, and silence empirical risk assessments. As a retired veteran practitioner, I occupy an 'insider-outsider' positionality that uniquely informs my inquiry. Unbound by internal corporate hierarchies, career promotion anxieties, or organisational politics, I offer complete critical distance while maintaining authentic, peer-to-peer credibility with active engineers and managers. This shared technical background enables participants to move past sanitised 'public accounts' and share candid, reflective 'private accounts' of organisational life."
Current Research Agenda
Stage 1 (Micro-Interactional Field Study):
Deconstructing the lived experience of engineers during 'The Hit' in live meetings and mapping backstage covert workarounds using a 3-Phase Radial Interview ProtocolStage 2 (Macro-Structural & Theoretical Synthesis):
Linking micro-level speech acts to broader institutional genealogies, corporate policy frameworks, and macro-economic pressures.
